...and?
Feeder have not done much for a while.
I know a lot of people hate The Darkness, but I don't.
It's something different.
It's what this country needed on the music scene.
Ok, so they're everywhere at the moment. So what?
Let them have their moment of glory. It'll probably fade...if they don't bring out an album to better Permission To Land.
They'll still be around though.
We're just waiting for the next fad to take over...

You can't argue that the Darkness can produce some cracking songs, "Love is only a feeling" being case and point

Random person: "The Darkness are shite..."
"Ok then, well you go back to your crappy dead end day job while Justin and the boys do what they enjoy and get paid for it..."

I am not saying that The Darkness are awful... No no no! Not at all. It's just I think that Feeder aren't recognised. They produce amazing songs/albums that don't get any publicity... I think that The Darkness came onto the scene with their first ever song and got to number one... There was nothing new about them apart from the fact that they had ridiculous haircuts and a tacky video! I Believe In A Thing Called Love is quite a good song, but not original enough in my eyes...

I only noticed people having a go at The Darkness when 'I believe in a thing called love' became a massive hit for them. And more and more people seem to dislike The Darkness after their cheesy Christmas song. I suppose success has brought them mass market attention, but also an increased number of people who will hate them for being different. I really like the band but I think their whole OTT-retro-glam-big-hair angle is starting to grate. They can push it too far. But the media is doing all that for them as well.
'Growing on Me' is my favourite Darkness song. I love the riff. I also think they're worthy of their awards. I don't think Feeder deserve an award for 'best rock act' on the strength of their last album, whereas The Darkness do.
So there.

Feeder have won awards in the past, and had platinum selling albums and hit singles, as well as appearing on major TV shows and being on the head-line stages at numerous festivals. So they've had recognition and attention. They're just not spectacular enough to warrant the huge media coverage of the Darkness. Perhaps if rock had been as popular as it is now a few years ago, they would. But anyway, Grant and co are well travelled troopers of the music scene and unless they produce something earth-shatteringly amazing, you can't expect huge publicity for them - they're not 'fresh' enough. They've still got more publicity than the majority of British acts though.
As to 'Comfort in Sound', well it's a mature and well made album, but not overly spectacular. And it's a sad fact that Jon's death helped with the publicity side of the album. The next one will have to sell without that. But I'm sure Grant will make something good that will sell purely on it's merits. There's many a good tune still to come from the guitar of Mr. Nicholas.

Do you want to know how I discovered Feeder? Tough... I'm telling you anyway! I heard Buck Rogers twice. I went out and bought Echo Park, listened to Piece By Piece, and I was instantly hooked to Feeder! Comfort In Sound is at least three times better than Echo Park! (In my opinion...) I am a big fan of soft, melodic rock. I don't like Feeder's louder stuff... So to me, CIS was spectacular. And I write songs and I can tell that Grant really meant what he wrote. This album was much more emotional. I can see how Feeder's older fans would have been dissapointed by the mellowness of this album compared to their older stuff, but I prefer it... It's sad that their music has improved since Jon died... But maybe that experience changed Taka and Grant... Who knows...

Echo Park was overproduced and lacking in charm. For CIS to be inferior would be difficult. Their older stuff is indeed superior in my opinion. Edgier, perhaps. More rocking, definately. CIS is good and well made, but far removed from the band rockier, more alternative roots. It's pensive and melancholy, which is ok if you want to listen that that type of music. Coldplay, Travis, numerous other bands all go down that route. I'd rather Feeder didn't. Although they've certainly had numerous emotion-provoking songs in the past: Undivided, Here in the Bubble, Swim, YWTS, Tomorrow Shine etc... but now there's a distinct pop-edge to their production.
Saying all that, Moonshine is perhaps one of their finest songs to date.
Also - you ought to find those songs I've mentioned if you haven't already. Most of them are b-sides and superior to the band's album tracks.

What's so 'different' about The Darkness? They sound exactly the same as about 300 80s rock bands.

My point exactly...

Name 300 of them then. Or at least 60.
The operative word was 'Eighties'. Rock is popular again. Amongst the leaders in the pack are The Darkness. The Darkness have taken old formulae and made them fun again. How many other catsuit wearing long haired glam rockers are currently riding high up the charts? That's why they're different, and that's why they're worthy of their awards (and also because their songs happen to be bloody good.)
