My dear chaps, and of course - non-chaps, I bring to your attention something that is worthy not just of mermit and celebration, but also the donning of smart hats and bow-tie: The 'Random Thought Depository' has reached an amazing 10,000 views since it's wondrous conception some years earlier. Actually, it still has a few views to go before reaching that total, but then we all celebrated the millenium a year early apparently, so who's counting hey.
...... [hmm, what's happened to that sign?]
Cough, er Please Applause now.....
Anyway, I would like to thank each and any every one of you who has taken your time to empty your thoughts into the depository. Many are riveting epics of miniscule proportions; some are humurous and tickle the funny-bone of the easily amused; and others are, well, crap - child-like gibberish even, but at least I am not alone in the spreading of pointless nonsense: you did it with me.
Please, give a round of applause for all our efforts. Were the neon, 'APPLAUSE NOW' sign working, I wouldn't have to ask you to do this. From now on, please clap your hands and whistle and shout out in typical big-pretentious-celebration-show-audience manner, whenever you deem the occasion to warrant the applause. But no annoying and attention-seeking heckling - OR YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE PREMISES.
Ahem.
Such has been the unpresidented success of the Random Thought Deposity, even others outside the hallowed halls of the Disko.co.uk Forums have BLATENTLY COPIED the thread for themselves! If only I'd have patented the idea sooner - untold riches would surely have been mine. I mean ours.
Those cheeky-chumsters at eFanforums (an inferior, and tramp infested community no doubt) have taken the Random Thought Depository, and after summoning up all the originality and talent they could muster, copied not just the name, but also much of the opening text - including the giving out of DISKO.CO.UK POINTS to the best thoughts posted! I should hire an assassin to dispose of the cretin responsible, but then immitation is the sincerest form of flattery and I beam with pride and smugness, especially as I am already planning to jet out to hollywood to sell the movie rights of the 'Random Thought Depository story' to some big-wig Hollywood director. Again, untold riches will be mine. Cough, er ours.
Anyway, once again, thankyou very much for participating in the Random Thought Depository. It's been fun, it's been great, and also many other adjectives that I can't be bothered to use a thesaurus to find them. It really has captured the whole wondrous vibe of the Disko.co.uk/Dogzbollocks.com/Feeder Mecca forums over the years, so much so, that if you were to print them all out, bury them in a time capsule in some field, and then, seventy-five years later when Tesco builds yet another new giant supermarket on the (mostly) untouched for a thousand years greenbelt where the capsule is buried, we'd amuse the construction workers with our random anecdotes to such a degree that they'd stop work for a bit, take off their hard hats and salute us for being such fantastic people. They might even build a memorial for those of us long dead, but who, with our selfless sharing of our random thoughts, somehow touched all those who read them.
Please clap, with some emotion this time.
Let us hope there are many more random thoughts to come.
As this ceremony ends, I'd like to thank the following people for their contributions (in no particular order, other than the order I remembered your names first....or read them in the thread):
Mike, Wedge, Gargoyle, Becca, Heartless, Obi, Felix, Miss C, Carol, Pinksheep, Baxter, doctorvee, Alex H, riva21, Argh a monkey, Steve, PurpleMonsta, Jezzie, papergoat, beck, I can't think of a name, twinkletoes, Del, Chris Flynn, indianna, Toxic, Nadya Krupskaya, sewer, .... and that's everyone up until end of April 2004. Sorry for everyone I missed out, including Claire25000 or whatever your name is.
If you have the time to spare, hunt for your favourite thoughts over the past 3 years or so, post them here (copyright permitting) and we can all have a laugh and a cry over them. Perhaps the author of the quote can explain the reasoning behind the thought, although that might involve effort and lying.
So cheers everyone! Here's to another 10,000 views of the Random Thought Depository.
Do clap and cheer and cry out in joy as the lights fade, I leave through the trap-door and some over-the-top music plays out the ceremony.
