My credit card took a hammering at the weekend - shopping for engagement ring. I'm grateful I didn't have to go throught the horror of shopping for a ring. Luckily he choose it for me

Of course. As I never thought anyone would ever want to marry me, I'd never bothered standing longingly outside Jewelle shop windows deciding what ring I would prefer!

Apparently the trend in America (according to non-American TV) is now to buy the biggest possible rock on your engagement ring - no more tiny little things. So much for the age of sexual equality when the woman wants you to mortgage everything you own just to get her a friggin ring and the bloke gets nothing into the bargain. Except for a bit of extra 'gratitude' and less ear-ache for a while perhaps. A trend? This is not a trend. Its a requirement by law.
