So I finally saw this film last night, and I thought it was great. Not only was it a great action film, but it actually touched me. I couldn't help but feel sorry for some of the kids. The poor lad with the GPS system that spent the whole film looking for the girl he loved only to be shot to shit by her ("we've known each other for years, why did you never say anything?"), the way the girl out of Kill Bill went completly psycho just because she was sick of being a looser.
And it had some great comedy bits too, like the guy who is mega impressed that his bullet proof vest saved him - and then gets a samuri sword through his head.
Oh yeah, but how does that "winning" girl from the opening scene of the film fit into it? What's the significance of the cookies, and withought spoiling anything, sit worth me getting the sequal?

I own both, Battle Royale & Battle Royale II: Requiem.
They're excellent movies.
However, I've not watched BR for about 8 months. So I can't remember.
But it's worth buying the second.
Also, if you're really into your Tartan Asia movies, try these:
Old Boy Ichi The Killer Dark Water

I watched Dark Water again last night.
Such a good film.
"Dark Water is a much more traditional ghost story. After winning a custody battle for her daughter, single mother Yoshimi moves into what she thinks is the perfect apartment with her daughter Hitomi. No sooner have they unpacked than strange things begin to disturb their new life. A water leak from the supposedly abandoned apartment above gets bigger and bigger, a child's satchel reappears even though Yoshimi throws it away several times, and she is haunted by the image of a child wearing a yellow mackintosh who bears a striking resemblance to a young girl who disappeared several years before.
The conventional narrative follows Yoshimi's increasingly desperate attempts to discover who or what force is haunting her daughter, but the story's execution is far from predictable. The film is saturated; the relentless dripping in the apartment, the constant rain outside and the deliberately washed-out photography make any colour, such as the yellow coat, seem incongruous and unsettling. This is an almost deserted Tokyo--preferring to concentrate the action on Yoshimi's rising hysteria as she struggles to understand what is happening and how to save her daughter. Granted, the special effects are somewhat unconvincing and the ending confused, but even so the result is a stylish and disquieting chiller that will do for bathtubs what Ring did for video recorders."

Aye.
If you end up watching Ichi The Killer, that film will piss you off. It's a great film all the way up until the ending. Which makes no sense and has fuck all to do with the film. Well, pretty much.
Edit: Some of my posts are like Jap movies...

I'm supposed to be borrowing Ringu off a guy at work, so that will be a good watch. At least I think he said Ringu. It may have been Pingu.
