The tell tale signs of trouble up mill were there: i) The Flood control - to stop people posting too often , ii) CGI Timeouts - too many people at once causing a strain on the server, hence it times out the operation.
Unfortunately M3W failed to warn everyone earlier, so people continued to abuse the boards. The fact is Bulletin boards are exactly that - bulletins, for discussion. Not for chatting. The fault lies with the original messageboard which with it's refresh command, made everyone treat it like a chat room. The UBB boards are more server intensive so they were never gonna cope.
I hope people will be more responsible if they get the boards back up and running, and I hope mods are there to delete unnecessary and pointless threads - eg, 'Appreciation thread for...' , 'Mallet's Mallet' etc.
Guess we'll all wait and see if they return. Not that I'm too bothered, truth be told.
