It's February 2007 and the Oscars have recently been and gone and hogged all the limelight. Pretentious beautiful people smiled to the cameras and pretended to be humble whilst accepting awards from their fellow pretentious peers. Fortunately the event is over, and it's time to grab a piece of the public's attention back with news from the world of 'Random Thoughts'.
Many moons ago, a groundbreaking thread was created here known as the 'Random Thought Depository'. This was not long after Moses had stood upon the mountain-top and talked to a bush in an alleged drunken stupor. Anyway, the idea was simple: you used a thread to type all your pointless random thoughts into. Incredibly ace, it was bound to be copied across the entire internet, much like porn movies are today via peer to peer networks. So lets see how many such 'Random Thought Depository' threads exist today on the t'internet.

59 Pages of 'Random Thoughts' consisting of 10 per page. Sadly the strict rules of a 'Random Thought Depository' are not being adhered to in a stringent enough fashion and many posts are merely non-random replies to the previous thought. The lack of discipline in the thread is most unbecoming and one can only be disappointed when skimming through the messages.
Highlight: "It's Hump Day!"
Rating: 2.5/5.

The Inspiration for this entire thread. Not only does it share the title of our own masterpiece, but it features an abridged version of the opening gambit too. It was started in 2004, and has remained popular throughout it's life at the movie discussion based forum, featuring 1046 replies at the time of writing. The random thoughts appear to be drying up, however, possibly as the users there have since died or had their brainpower destroyed over the years by being subjected to one too many mind-numbing Adam Sandler movies.
Once again slack moderation right from the start has allowed the thread to descend into a chaotic mess of random and non-random posts, thus heavily affecting the RTD's overall rating.
Highlight: "quincy!"
Rating: 3/5 - Initial promise let down by a carefree non-Random Thought posting mentality that quickly spread like a cancer throughout the thread, ruining it's potential and overall quality.

Well if I thought the previous forum had a cheek borrowing not the thread idea, but the opening introduction, this one goes one better and half-inches it all! Even better, the first 'random thought' is actually one of my own posted in 2002, four years earlier! Incredulous! I need to use some more exclamation marks to further explain my shock!!
The good news is that of the 164 replies to the initial 'random thought', there are very few non-random responses to previous posts. Either the visitors there fully understand the intricate workings of a RTD and what a RTD really means, or the moderation is of an excellent standard. Although, however, things degenerate towards the current end of the thread, with much unnecessary quoting of previous messages. If only you could see the disappointment creep across my face right now.
Despite the obvious lack of originally present in the beginnings of the thread, it scores higher than the other RTD so far. The bar has been raised gentlemen.
Highlight: "I have, indeed, bent my wookie."
Rating: 3.5/5 - Would have scored 4 were it not for breaking the rules of the RTD in the very opening post by NICKING MY ONE.

Another RTD that began life in 2006, surely a vintage year for such threads. Unfortunately it seems to follow the non-random thought posting culture of many such threads, and hence the quality is middling to poor at best. I'm actually getting tired of reviewing these threads and this one doesn't exactly grab me by the balls - which actually is probably for the best.
Highlight: "i met a midget named Harold. he said he was bi. i asked him which he preferred. he said midgets. "
Rating: 2.5/5 . Non-incredible RTD of a comparable poor standard to many other RTDs out there.

Even aspiring thespians are in on the act. Ones other than our own dear Gargoyle. Once more it began it's life in 2006, (there's a definite pattern emerging here), and it has become quite a popular thread, gaining 506 replies and more views than it's spiritual father/mother thread. Though it appears even actors and the stagehands that populate the forum find it difficult to cope with the basic concept of a Random Thought Depository, replying to one another's messages with gay abandon. It's not so much a RTD, but a series of short conversations. Really it is most disappointing and I only hope they have a better understanding of the concept of acting than they do of a Random Thought Depository. To be fair to the would be Shakespeare-os, the rules were not fully explained in the opening post.
Highlight: "pigeons are noisy"
Rating: 2/5 - Not so much as a case of break a leg, but breaking a thread. A popular but disappointing RTD.
Well fortunately that seems to be the majority, if not the entirety of the Random Thought Depository threads that now populate the internet, although there is no telling how many other similar yet differently named threads exist out there.
If your forum has such a thread, or you're thinking of starting one, please send the link to my good-self so I may peruse it at a later time and then review it here for the benefit of others.
Many thanks. And may the random thoughts pour forthwith and often from your minds until the day your head is removed in an unfortunate decapitation accident.
